Why Turkey?

The answer is simple. Turkey is located on a cradle of civilisations and cultures. Its culture is so unique that it cultivates relics of many cultures and represents a mixture of cultures at the crossroads of East and West. The rich history and culture, which is a heritage from thousands of hears of history, provides many possibilities for educational and cultural projects. Already being the 6th most visited country in the world by international tourists because of its natural, historical and cultural treasures, Turkey’s potential can be employed in school projects. Because it has not been commonly studied in Hong Kong, projects in and on Turkey will bring new perspectives to participating people from Academic and Non-Academic backgrounds.

Mission

The mission of the study trips to Turkey is to contribute to peace with intercultural educational projects involving Students and Academicians from universities, community collages as well as the individuals who have academic or non-academic backgrounds and have social project purposes.

  • –  To experience Anatolia, Cradle of Civilisations, which has been a home to a great variety of civilisations, cultures, peoples, religions and their history extending thousands of years back

About

Anatolia Cultural and Dialogue Centre (ACDC) is a non-profit organisation established in 2007 for cultural, dialogue and charitable purposes. It has been serving the community and contributing to cultural and mutual understanding in Hong Kong. It is our understanding that in today’s world dialog between different cultures is very crucial for the overall wellbeing of the society. Therefore, setting up the means and ways for effective communication among peoples with various backgrounds has been a major part of our activities. These activities have been widely supported by Hong Kongers who have turned ordinary events into fruitful gatherings by bringing the unique aspects of their cultures and sharing them with others.

In an attempt to taking these steps to a new level, we would like to extend our invitation to superintendents, school administrators, board members, Master Students – PhD Students, Professors and individuals from various community collages, universities and institutions for a study trip to Turkey. The proposed trip will be 1-2 week long and include excursions to different cultural, educational, historical sites as well as visits with the governmental, educational, civic and private institutions and also local people. Planned to provide the most personal experience in the host community, this study trip will enable participants to experience the culture in its own setting through engaging in contact with the local peoples of the country rather than just being an outside observer.

Turkey, sitting on a unique geographical position-connecting Asia and Europe, East and West, can be instrumental to initiate the dialogue that has been most needed in recent times. This trip will cover places like Istanbul, the capital city of great civilisations; Antalya, a beautiful coastal Mediterranean city; and Izmir, House of Mary; and many others east-to- west; each of which has taken their place in history as a statue of harmony, tolerance, love and compassion. They continue to inspire their visitors today for a better world.

The project is open to university students (Undergrad, Master and PhD), scholars and individuals (Social Entrepreneurs, Community Contributors etc.) that will potentially promote understanding of self and others. Projects, itineraries and conditions may be negotiated to create the best possible study trip for the purposes of the group with ACDC
