Religion and Inter-religious Dialogue in Turkey

What is identity? What is its relationship to religion and culture? How does it relate to modernization? What role does religious identity play in explaining acts around us?

Turkey, itself is the answer of all these questions. A country where it combines all at the same point. Where it represent the differences in one color.

Since the culture shaped by religions in Turkey, do we know how the religion to do so. Do we know the religion fact in Turkey?

Professor Dr. Niyazi Öktem who is president of the Intercultural Dialogue Platform, the most prominent inter-faith organization in Turkey, will describe the place of religion in Turkey. How the religion shapes a culture and it drives to different ways. He will describe the place of inter-religious dialogue and its contributions to the religious harmony.

You are welcomed to hear the religions and its role in Turkey as well as its effects to current issues.

Niyazi Öktem (born 1944) is a Turkish academic. A professor of Public Law, Philosophy of Law, and Sociology of Law in the Faculty of Law at Istanbul Bilgi University

and Faculty of Law at Fatih University. He is president of the Intercultural Dialogue Platform, the most prominent inter-faith organization in Turkey.

He is currently  in Hong Kong as a guest speaker at HKU on the topic of “Moslem-Christian Dialogue: Sexuality and Gender”
